Learning a New Prayer

April 22, 2012

I was learning a new prayer the other day…
I prayed, “Lord, when shall I be made one with the?”
And a small voice answered, “Now.”
I said, “When shall I be melted in your love so that I wholly forget myself?”
“When your fear subsides.” Said the voice.

In my shop I handle all kinds of merchandise. If someone comes looking for rat shit I’ll sell him rat shit. If someone comes looking for gold I’ll sell him pure gold.–Zen Master Yang-shan

As it turns out, the price for pure gold is high, very high indeed. Even the downpayment is steep, you must give up all of you illusions. Ind the end you must give up all that you have and all that you think you are even your very self.

Cynic: A disillusioned idealist who regularly passes judgement on the world for failing to live up to his high standards/–me

Normally we think of a cynic as a pessimist with a sour view of reality. This is not the case. A cynic is someone who thinks the world is not as it should be, as it would be if he were in charge. The payoff for this view is the feeling of superiority they get because they are the only one who knows just how things should be. They are the ones who could fix things if only the fools running things would get out of the way.

You’ll never get to be good at anything unless you are willing to be bad at it first.–me

The greatest enemy of learning is fear. Perfectionism, the need to do (and be) perfect, is the result of fear. Not sure when we learn this fear, but I’m sure it’s something we’ve learned rather than somthing we are born with. Infants don’t wait to make sounds untill they’ve learned to talk. Children don’t wait untill they know hot before they learn to ride a bike. Bust sometime after that the fear of making mistakes happens to most of us.

So here’s the secret for dealing with bad feelings: emotions are ephemeral. They don’t last, that is unless we hang on to them. The problem is that most of us are extremely skilled at at hanging on to the negative ones. –me (Spiritual Heimlich)

It’s almost as though we are possessed by our own minds or rather by our egos. Like slaves we are driven into the past to dwell upon perceived hurts or failures. Either that or we are driven into a future we dread, a future which might never come. Indeed, the future never comes, the past is gone all we ever have is the eternal present. And our ego avoids the present because in the present we are free.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.–Gandhi

Exactly. The problem here isn’t so much the law itself it’s in the enforcement. In order to enforce this law we must pass judgement on them. The fact is we cannot judge another without judging ourselves. Specifically if we judge someone and then blind them, must we not in turn judge and then blind ourselves?

Forgiveness is the key to ending your suffering. Always forgive yourself first.–me

Suffering happens when you give, something or someone or even your own ego the power to take you away from the joy of living in the present moment. Forgiveness is the process of taking back that power. The way we give away our power is to create a myth in which that other entity has our power. This myth, besides being untrue, is also not useful. We must never, never, never permit ourselves to have such a myth.
